Apartmenthaus Favoriten

Laaer-Berg-Straße 26-28, 1100 Wien

Description

This district is named after the Favorita castle and is by far the most densely populated district in Vienna. Separated from Wieden (District 4) and elevated to become its own district, the former home of leading social politicians like Viktor Adler and Jakob Reumann today comprises the districts of Rothneusiedl, Inzersdorf, Ober- and Unterlaa, Laaer Berg and Wienerberg.

Not later than in the second half of the 19th century, the Laaer Forest was one of the most visited local recreation areas in the immediate vicinity of Vienna. The first company cafeteria of the Wienerberger Ziegelwerke (Tile Factory) developed into the first country inn. Others gradually followed. They were joined by the first fairground families that then formed the foundation of the "little" Prater. One quarter of the population originated at that time from the crown lands, mainly from Bohemia and Moravia. This fact gave them the nicknames, "Tile Bohemians" and the resulting amusement park got the name "Bohemian Prater".
